Pmayland, set in a travelling amusement park encamped on the outskirts of a town in Fugard's beloved Karoo, South Africa, is a powerful allegory. In this unlikely spot, on New Year's Eve 1989, two men - a young white returnee from the Border and a black night watchman - meet accidentally and, as the eighties become the nineties, work through their differences and the shared nightmare of recent history towards reconciliation and the hope of peace.
